A Night of Two Centuries: Royals Clinch Thriller in Kolkata

By -

An absolute firework of a match was played in IPL 2024 on April 16th, as KKR hosted RR in a match that was played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This intense encounter between two of the prime teams of the cup was as exciting as the pre-match hype promised. It took a last-ball heroics to separate the teams.

KKR selected to bat first, and they did exactly what they should have.  Sunil Narine who has a flamboyant style, played with a stroke that was part-aggressive, part-brilliant, and he made KKR to a total 223/6. Underneath other batsman’s essential contributions, the night was Narine’s, no doubt.

RR was in dire need of a solid reply to the tall target set by the opponent. And to be honest, it was great game, mainly (the main reason for it) was 100 runs of the man in form Jos Buttler. He was like a leader of the team, the mainstay of the chase as he made runs freely, and finally, notched 107* off 60 balls. As the others kept falling on and off the crease, Buttler stayed focused, pushing RR to the doorstep of a win.

The game was decided by a single run at the end, with RR left to chase 7 runs in the final over. If KKR bowlers had fought back better, they would have managed to pull it off, but it was Buttler who came out on top, surviving the last ball to hit a boundary and grab a dramatic two-wicket win for Rajasthan.

This match had it all: majestic strokes, sublime bowling posters, and an ending that had fans in the seats with tackling edge. As for Narine and Buttler they were the ones who gave their all to show their outstanding centuries, while the bowlers from both sides just were better and displayed exceptional skill.

RR's win not only consolidated their position at the top of the IPL points table but also showcased their fighting spirit and ability to perform under pressure. With the playoffs approaching, this victory will surely serve as a major confidence booster for the Royals.
