Mariners Triumph! Mohun Bagan Clinch Maiden ISL Shield in Dramatic Fashion

By -
The end of the Indian Super League 2023-24 season came as a highlight on April 15th as they engraved their name in the history with their final win. Through a clash with Mumbai City FC in the final game, the Mariners, during the very first ISL League Shield, won 2-1 most spectacularly.

The spectators at the Salt Lake Stadium, enlivened by Kolkata's exuberance, watched a close quarter. The goal by Liston Colaco, just before the first half, was matched by the strike of the substitute Jason Cummings, near the end of the match. Mumbai City created another just-in-time gap for themselves when Chhangte scored a goal in the 89th minute.but the 10-man Mariners, playing with a red card to Brendan Hamill, held on for a historic win.

This triumph marks a significant milestone for Mohun Bagan, one of India's most decorated football clubs. They've finally reached the summit, and the road to the league championship ends with the awarding of the coveted League Shield, which is given to the team that finishes at the top of the points table. Along with the joy of the victory, this triumph locks the way to the AFC Champions League group stage for the 2024-25 campaign for Mohun Bagan - which would be considered as a great achievement for Indian football.

The credit goes to Mohun Bagan's head coach, who instilled a winning mentality in the squad throughout the season. The team were equally as good as vast attacks, or emending defense. The duo of Liston Colaco and Jason Cummings had immense impact in their success. It was a great team performance that led them to win League Shield. As a matter of fact, it was under liston Colaco, and Jason Cummings they had a great performance that they edged out Mumbai City FC who have dominated the League Shield in recent times.

The ISL Shield won through by Mohun Bagan is a sign of a magnificent event for the Mohun Bagan fans. It is a tribute to club's glorified yesteryears, loyal and hardcore fans base that continues to remain undeterred with their love for the beautiful game. Now that is a playoff zone for the Mariners, the trophy that is. They want to add a trophy of champion kind to their cabinet. Will they be able to reach the final? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: Mohun Bagan have taken the limelight as a team that is no longer an unrecognized unit in the Indian footballs arena.
